Edward Cooke

I am a family solicitor and mediator with over 20 years experience. I set up a specialist family law and mediation practice, Edward Cooke Family Law in 2018.

As a firm, we handle the full range of family law issues including children and financial matters arising upon separation and divorce. We now have a team of experienced family lawyers and mediators working in beautiful, discrete offices in the heart of the South Downs on the West Sussex/Hampshire border close to Chichester.

I am a Resolution trained mediator and a collaborative lawyer, and as such, I will always look to see whether a client’s issues can be resolved without the need for court intervention.

However, where a client needs to make a court application, we are experienced court advocates and will represent clients in court proceedings in relation to children and financial matters, and any urgent court applications that may be required, whether in relation to domestic abuse or otherwise.

I am a member of the National Committee of Resolution, the nationwide organisation of over 6,500 family law professionals committed to constructive resolution of family law disputes. In 2018 I received Resolution’s John Cornwell award (an award chosen by Resolution members) for my work in supporting separating families – this is an award made annually to a Resolution member who has made an outstanding contribution in supporting separating families.

I am also on the Resolution West Sussex committee and I led the successful fight to secure alternative court provision when the government announced the closure of the Chichester Combined Court centre in 2015. After a three year battle, we secured provision at East Pallant House, the Chichester District Council building, This alternative court provision is one of the first “pop up” courts in the country and our fight to establish this provision featured in national press such as “The Times” newspaper and in House of Commons Select Committee meetings.
